Horton, Yorkshire - Jan 2026

Christmas came early to Horton this year as we decided that as part of our ongoing outreach and together with our Birthday group, we would hold a Christmas Tree Festival over the weekend of 21st-23rd November. The trees were decorated with different themes from our own church groups, and the local school, community wardens and the local drama society joined in as well, meaning we had lots of new visitors to the Church. We also had a variety of stalls selling seasonal goods and refreshments were served over the weekend. Although the event was slightly early, with Advent not starting until the week after, it had to fit in with lots of other events being held over this very busy period. It was a great success, the trees looked beautiful, the refreshments welcomed and everyone, including passers-by who called in to see what was happening, along with lots of friends and family and the wider church community all came along, and all enjoyed it. A lot of work and a lot of thanks to everyone for making it a success, but lots of fellowship, and hopefully something we can continue to do in years to come.

The following week was the start of Advent and Sr Claire hosted an online Advent Bible Study as well as a meeting in church. We also welcomed our Sisters and Brothers from Lower Wyke to a joint service on Advent Sunday and it was wonderful to sing the Hosanna Anthem together and to share this time of worship.

The congregation at Horton hope you have had a peaceful, joy filled Christmas and send very best wishes for the New Year.

Sr Linda Barraclough
