Ockbrook, Derbyshire - Oct 2026
Following their hugely successful performances in London and Leicester, ‘Moravian Brass’ were our special guests at ‘Summer on the Settlement’ on 8th August, and what a marvellous time we had! They were not our only ‘stars’ as we also welcomed Niels Fischer, the organist of the Moravian Church in Zeist, Holland and his very talented family, who also gave a demonstration of how they constructed our giant star, which has enhanced the church, for a number of years.
The weather was magnificent and we had an extraordinary number of visitors, who in addition to being entertained by the brass band, also enjoyed exhibitions in the church and tours of the Settlement. They were hosted and guided by costumed congregational members, including Br Joachim Kruesel, in the role of our first 18th century minister, John Ockershausen. Also in costume were our stalwart catering team, who raised valuable money for church funds with fabulous food and drink, all day, as well as providing a two-course evening meal, to thank our German visitors.

‘Moravian Brass’ got thoroughly onto the spirit of the occasion, performing pieces from the cupola, in addition to their main concert, at 4.30pm, when they performed to an appreciative full house in the church. The occasion was opened by the Mayor of Erewash, who also happens to be our own Br Greg Maskalick!
We had a final bonus on Sunday, when they teamed up with Niels Fischer, for a memorable morning service.
We feel we have made many new friends, both from the local community, the wider UK and Europe, and thank everyone involved for making the day so special.
